ELITE JUNIOR: Daquare Hunter

Daquare Hunter is a versatile player who plays linebacker as well as running back. At 6’2, 225 pounds Daquare mainly plays linebacker for Effingham County and has already posted 19 tackles this season. He has been working hard in the gym and is benching 405 and squatting 530. UGA has begun to take notice to Daquare’s work ethic and has been actively recruiting him. Daquare also attended their camp, Dawg Night, this past summer.

When asked about where he might want to attend school, Daquare put his family first. “I really want to go to a school relatively close to home,” Daquare said, “I really want to play for an SEC team though.”

During the interview it was evident that he wanted to play in the SEC, which has one of the most competitive conferences in college football. It was obvious though that it’s important to him to be close enough to his family so he can visit, as he has a very strong relationship with them.

The list of things Daquare cares about, and excels at, is longer than the list most adults have. Obviously football, improving himself, and spending time with his family are important, but he is also involved in the community and constantly studying to stay on top of his grades. In addition to all of this, he is competing for Effingham County’s track team, in the shot put and discus.

I briefly spoke to Effingham County’s head coach over the weekend, and he shed some light on what makes Daquare who he is.

“He is a tremendous athlete with 4.5 speed in the 40. He long jumped over 10 feet at the “Dawg Night” in Athens at UGA this summer,”Holder explained. He said they can use Daquare at linebacker or tailback because of his incredible speed that is vital at those two positions. His quiet demeanor may not have his name out there as much as some other players his age, but that will change as he continues to play.

“Daquare Hunter is very quiet and soft spoken,” Holder told me. “But he lets his play on the field do his talking for him.”
