PREPS: Girls hoops rankings – Week 5

If local fans of girls prep basketball were hungry last week, surely they enjoyed a few sweet pieces of upside-down cake. In just one week, three local girls teams fell from the top spot in the AJC’s rankings.

In Class 5A, Hillgrove tumbled to 10th after losing three times to other ranked Cobb County rivals: Campbell, McEachern, and North Cobb. Read more >

PREPS: Boys hoops rankings – Week 4

Several of the state’s most highly ranked teams competed in tournaments and invitationals over weekend, despite being knee-deep in region play. One of the most high-profile of those events was the Marriott Invitational, which as held at Norcross over the weekend.

At Norcross, Miller Grove was beaten for the first time this season by Dr. Krop (Fla) 70-63. Read more >

PREP BEAT: East bests West in DeKalb Senior All-Star game

On a cold and misty day in DeKalb County’s Hallford Stadium, the East All-Stars defeated their West counterparts 13-0 in the DeKalb Senior All-Star Game. The game was played by senior stars from several DeKalb County public high schools, with St. Pius the only private school taking part. Read more >

Washington 35, Riverwood 21: Justin Taylor ran for 206 yards and a touchdown for visiting Washington (3-1) in its win over Riverwood (1-4). Quarterback Renard Battle ran and passed for a touchdown for the Bulldogs, and wide receiver Zack Witchett had two touchdowns as well. Washington’s DeAngelo Ivery scooped a fumble for a touchdown. North Cobb 18, Lassiter 14: Both teams scored all their points in the first half, with host Lassiter (1-2) scoring all of its 14 in the first quarter and North Cobb (2-1) answering with 18 in the second. Quentin James scored twice on the ground for North Cobb, and Travis Hawkins ran for a score. Read more >
