HEADED WEST: Lassiter’s Printz commits to UCLA

Since leaving the Atlanta Falcons Jim Mora Jr., roamed the sidelines in Seattle for one season and last year served as a commentator on FOX before becoming the brand new coach of UCLA. Some questioned how he would fare in the crazy world of recruiting. In his first few weeks on the job he has secured two Peach State prospects that could help the Bruins compete with the USC Trojans and both have Lassiter ties. Mora snagged safety Kene Orjioke and Monday picked up the pledge of former SMU pledge Eddie Printz. The rising senior led the Lassiter Trojans to a series of upsets en route to a 10-4 season with an appearance in the semifinals.

Printz made the very first Score Atlanta 24 2Look4 list and is sure to be featured on the 2012 Score 44 list after appearing in the Georgia Junior Bowl. Read more >

Ed Printz didn’t particularly care for what he witnessed after his son, Eddie Printz, a touted sophomore quarterback at Marietta, Ga., Lassiter, returned from a recruiting trip awhile back.

“People started pulling at Eddie,” Printz recalled. “One day he wore a South Carolina shirt and people started giving him a hard time because they thought he liked another school. At the same time, (Gamecock fans) thought they had Eddie locked up.”

Eddie Printz is enjoying the recruiting process, thanks to his father. Read more >

PREPS: Lassiter runs past Cherokee

When the Walton boys defeated Wheeler earlier in the week, everybody wanted to claim those two schools have separated themselves from the rest of Region 5-AAAAA. Not so fast, the Lassiter Trojans are right there with Walton and Wheeler and they got a big 60-38 win over the Cherokee Warriors on Friday.

“We put four good quarters together,” head coach Jeremy Morris said. “We’re playing out best basketball at the right time.” Read more >

PREP BEAT: West edges East in AT&T Junior Bowl

Perhaps the 2011 season will be dominated by the defense in the Peach State. In a game featuring the some of the best rising seniors in the state of Georgia, the Randy McPherson-coached West roster defeated the Franklin Stephens-led East squad 20-18 in the inaugural AT&T Georgia Junior Bowl thanks to some great defense and strong special teams play.

The East got out to an early lead after a bad snap on the game’s first play from scrimmage caused a safety. With the 2-0 lead it appeared that North Gwinnett’s Scott Hosch connected with Lassiter’s Charlie Hegedus for a long touchdown, but the score was erased due to a penalty. Austin Hardin did add a field goal to give the East a 5-0 lead. Then the West’s defense made a huge play. Read more >

CORKY KELL CLASSIC: North Gwinnett stomps Lassiter, 34-14

In what could be called the most anticipated game of the Kell Classic, the Lassiter Trojans took on the North Gwinnett Bulldogs and it was game expected to have a lot of offense.

There was a lot of offense, at least for the Bulldogs, as they ran and threw all over the Trojans and gained a huge 34-14 win.

The first quarter of the contest started off the way most fans thought it would; fast and exciting. Lassiter got the fireworks going first as quarterback Eddie Printz threw an 81-yard screen pass for touchdown to wide receiver Charlie Hegedus to put the Trojans up by seven. But North Gwinnett was not going to let Lassiter have all the fun, as quarterback C.J. Uzomah threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Ethan Kilgore to tie the game midway through the first quarter.
