The high school football state championships took place last week, but that did mean the season was over. One the championship games conclude, all-star games take place in the metro Atlanta area and McEachern has been the host of the Cobb Senior Bowl the last three years.

In this year’s version, the players were divided into the National team and the American team. The National team featured players from Walton, Kell, Wheeler, Marietta and South Cobb. The American team features players from Allatoona, Lassiter, Pope, North Cobb, Sprayberry and Campbell. In the end, the Nationals were too much the Americans, winning 41-19 at Walter Cantrell Stadium on Saturday. Read more >

ATLANTA SOUTHSIDE

North Clayton 28, Mt. Zion (Jonesboro) 7: Michael Ross took over in the fourth, scoring on a 68-yard run and 74-yard catch for the hosts (5-1). Austin Smith pulled Mt. Zion (5-1) within seven in the third. Read more >

Washington 35, Riverwood 21: Justin Taylor ran for 206 yards and a touchdown for visiting Washington (3-1) in its win over Riverwood (1-4). Quarterback Renard Battle ran and passed for a touchdown for the Bulldogs, and wide receiver Zack Witchett had two touchdowns as well. Washington’s DeAngelo Ivery scooped a fumble for a touchdown. COBB

Dalton 21, Allatoona 17: Matt Cobb ran for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter to put Dalton (3-1) past visiting Allatoona (3-1) despite two rushing scores from Miles Jones. Dalton’s Robert Hardaway ran a blocked punt back for a score before the half to give the Catamounts a 14-10 lead. Tre Beck scored Dalton’s first touchdown of the night on a short run after his 70-yard gain put the ball on the Allatoona 5.

Kell 20, East Paulding 13: Host Kell (4-0) scored the game-winning touchdown with 35 seconds remaining when Brian Randolph ran for a 34-yard touchdown. East Paulding’s Kamanti Thomas scored on a 2-yard run with 1:09 left in the second quarter but the Raiders (3-1) missed the PAT. In the third, Sean Ashley ran in a 2-yard touchdown to give the Raiders a 13-6 lead. Read more >

Score Atlanta decided to comprise a list at least four times better than any other list in the state for the 2010 football season. Our list won’t have simply 11 players. Oh no. Score Atlanta is proud to present the Score 44, aka the 44 best senior players in the state of Georgia. Score Atlanta loves high school football and wants to give back to the athletes that provide such joy for 16 weeks a year.

The list was partially unveiled on last week’s “Official Visit” show on 790 the Zone. Tonight, 11 more will be recognized on the show.
