PARKER PICKS: Miller Grove star headed to UCLA

The recruiting saga that was Tony Parker finally came to a conclusion Monday afternoon as the Miller Grove standout committed to UCLA at a ceremony at the school. Parker picked the Bruins hat over Georgia, Duke and Ohio State hats after countless speakers during the 57-minute ceremony. The 6-foot-9 2012 Georgia Gatorade Player of the Year will head to UCLA to play post and be a part of a signing class that includes Ryan Anderson and Shabazz Muhammad. Parker was listed at the No. 26 prospect in America according to ESPN.

Coach Sharman White started off the ceremony and introduced each speaker. White stated that Parker had “character to match his talent.” White coached Parker to a 109-16 record in four years, including four straight Class AAAA state titles.

PARKER PLEASED: Miller Grove coach says Parker happy with McDonald’s experience

Miller Grove’s Tony Parker was one of several undecided prospects to take part in Wednesday’s McDonald’s All-American game, and early on it was easy to see why teams across the country are hoping he selects them on April 11. Parker scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds in the first half to keep the East squad close entering halftime. The West would ultimately prevail 106-102 as Parker finished with 10 points and seven rebounds.

MILLER GROVE PREVIEW: Wolverines prepping for national schedule

After beginning the season with high expectations to compete with the top teams in the country, Coach Sharman White and his second-ranked Miller Grove Wolverines are prepping for a tough slate of games against some of the top-ranked teams in the county. The team passed its first true local test recently on the road against another national powerhouse, Southwest DeKalb, in overtime 57-53. Tony Parker, Miller Grove’s highly-touted big man, led the way with a double-double performance, tallying 15 points and 11 rebounds.

The Wolverines hope that this holiday season will bring them some magic against some of the nation’s toughest programs. First up for Miller Grove will be a nationally-televised showdown against perennial powerhouse Oak Hill Academy. Read more >
