RECRUITING BUZZ: Milton’s Lawson feels truly blessed

Despite the fact that his father won a co-national championship with Georgia Tech, Milton defensive end Carl Lawson pledged to Auburn over the Yellow Jackets this past weekend. Lawson joined The Official Visit on AM 790 last night to talk about his recruiting process, and there is little doubt that Lawson will head to the Plains after next year. The junior defensive end had zero offers before taking part in December’s Rising Seniors Game. After an incredible week of practice and a fine performance in the all-star game, the offers quickly started pouring in for Lawson.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Milton trying to finish the drill

Milton has turned from perennial also-ran to one of the state’s basketball dynasties under the leadership of coach David Boyd. The Eagles have made four consecutive final fours, and made the finals the last three years with one championship (2010), the only one in school history.

“We talked about finishing the drill, unfinished business. But it’s a different year, different team,” said Boyd. Read more >

PREPS: Metro coaches prepare for state hoops tourney

The GHSA State Basketball Tournament is just around the corner. This year promises more of the usual, as a ton of talent from across the Peach State will do battle for the right to be called state champions.

But going deep into the tourney is about much more than just talent and ability. Some of the state’s top coaches say that while that is certainly important, winning a title is about much, much more.

Head coach Sharman White and Miller Grove are no strangers to the tournament. They have made a habit of going deep into the postseason and have won back-to-back state titles.

”At our program we want to be playing for state championships every season,” White said. Read more >
