PREPS: TCA event yields several metro area signees

National Signing Day is big in the South. High school seniors signed their letters of intent to determine where they will spend the next three-four years of their lives.

Some of metro Atlanta best players made their way to Andretti Indoor Karting and Games to announce where they would play college football. The event was hosted by the Touchdown Club of Atlanta. Some of the high schools that were represented were North Gwinnett, Buford, Peachtree Ridge, Wesleyan and Blessed Trinity. The young men wore the hats to represent the school that they choose and the schools ranged from as big as Georgia to as small as Chattahoochee Tech.

PREP BEAT: West edges East in AT&T Junior Bowl

Perhaps the 2011 season will be dominated by the defense in the Peach State. In a game featuring the some of the best rising seniors in the state of Georgia, the Randy McPherson-coached West roster defeated the Franklin Stephens-led East squad 20-18 in the inaugural AT&T Georgia Junior Bowl thanks to some great defense and strong special teams play.

The East got out to an early lead after a bad snap on the game’s first play from scrimmage caused a safety. With the 2-0 lead it appeared that North Gwinnett’s Scott Hosch connected with Lassiter’s Charlie Hegedus for a long touchdown, but the score was erased due to a penalty. Austin Hardin did add a field goal to give the East a 5-0 lead. Then the West’s defense made a huge play. Read more >

Well, it’s all over for now. The state football finals took place over the weekend at the Georgia Dome and the state championships have been decided.
