YATES GETS THE CALL: Pope grad to start against Falcons

T.J. Yates, a Pope graduate from the class of 2006, makes his first NFL start on Sunday for the Houston Texans against the Falcons. The Pope alumnus played both basketball and football for the Greyhounds and during his junior season, he even took some time away from the gridiron to hone his basketball skills. Read more >

PREPS: Four schools repeat as state traditional wrestling champions

Sometimes, history repeats itself. And that is what happened in four of the state’s five classifications today in the Arena at Gwinnett during the GHSA traditional wrestling state championships.

We’re a third of the way home in the 2010-2011 Regions Directors Cup race. The Georgia Athletics Directors Association has presented the award since 1999-2000 to recognize the very best athletics programs in Georgia. Thus far in the school year, some of the traditional powers are in control of their respective classifications while some upstarts are also making an appearance at the top of the standings. PREP BEAT: Nationals beat Americans in Cobb Senior Bowl

The high school football state championships took place last week, but that did mean the season was over. One the championship games conclude, all-star games take place in the metro Atlanta area and McEachern has been the host of the Cobb Senior Bowl the last three years.

In this year’s version, the players were divided into the National team and the American team. The National team featured players from Walton, Kell, Wheeler, Marietta and South Cobb. The American team features players from Allatoona, Lassiter, Pope, North Cobb, Sprayberry and Campbell. In the end, the Nationals were too much the Americans, winning 41-19 at Walter Cantrell Stadium on Saturday. Read more >
