SCORE 44: Our list of the top 44 prep football prospects in the state and the metro area!

Anyone can put together a list of the best 10 or six or 11 football players in state, but how thorough would that list really be? Score Atlanta decided to comprise a list at least four times better than any other list in the state for the 2010 football season. Our list won’t have simply 11 players. Oh no. Score Atlanta is proud to present the Score 44, aka the 44 best senior players in the state of Georgia. Score Atlanta loves high school football and wants to give back to the athletes that provide such joy for 16 weeks a year.

The list was partially unveiled on last week’s “Official Visit” show on 790 the Zone. Tonight, 11 more will be recognized on the show.

Cherokee/Forsyth Beat, April 23-29: Lambert boys and girls win region tennis titles; West Forsyth sees win streak end

The West Forsyth baseball team’s five-game winning streak was snapped on Friday after losing to the high-powered, No. 2-ranked Gainesville Red Elephants, 4-2. A win would have capped off a successful week, as the Wolverines had already beaten Flowery Branch, Darlington, and Pickens. The game featured two outstanding pitchers in Blake Burkett for West and Hunter Anglin for Gainesville. Burkett pitched 5 1/3 innings only surrendering three earned runs while striking out five batters. Holding Gainesville to four runs total was an accomplishment in itself, as it was the second-lowest output that any team has recorded against them this season. Read more >

Woodstock and Sequoyah faced each other in a cross county rivalry, as both teams eased their way back from Spring Break with the non-classification game. The Wolverines won the decision 1-0 making it their second-straight shutout as they beat Cherokee 5-0 one week prior. Kent Emanuel, K.J. Reid and Carter Sangrey combined to get the win while scattering four hits against Sequoyah. David Mason knocked in the game’s only run with a pinch hit single. The two wins were welcomed by the Wolverines who had been on a three-game slide against region competition. Read more >

CHEROKEE/FORSYTH BEAT: Lambert, North Forsyth on win streaks; track teams on fire

After an 0-3 start to the season, the Lambert boys baseball team has won four-straight games and have only given up three runs in their last three appearances. With a team built around solid pitching, it seemed only a matter of time before the Longhorns would overcome their slow start, in which they lost all three games by only one run. Right handed pitcher Eric Regan has lead a good starting rotation with a 0.91 ERA after his first three starts. Read more >
