PREP BEAT: Nationals beat Americans in Cobb Senior Bowl

The high school football state championships took place last week, but that did mean the season was over. One the championship games conclude, all-star games take place in the metro Atlanta area and McEachern has been the host of the Cobb Senior Bowl the last three years.

In this year’s version, the players were divided into the National team and the American team. The National team featured players from Walton, Kell, Wheeler, Marietta and South Cobb. The American team features players from Allatoona, Lassiter, Pope, North Cobb, Sprayberry and Campbell. In the end, the Nationals were too much the Americans, winning 41-19 at Walter Cantrell Stadium on Saturday. Read more >

SCORE 44: Our list of the top 44 prep football prospects in the state and the metro area!

Anyone can put together a list of the best 10 or six or 11 football players in state, but how thorough would that list really be? Score Atlanta decided to comprise a list at least four times better than any other list in the state for the 2010 football season. Our list won’t have simply 11 players. Oh no. Score Atlanta is proud to present the Score 44, aka the 44 best senior players in the state of Georgia. Score Atlanta loves high school football and wants to give back to the athletes that provide such joy for 16 weeks a year.

The list was partially unveiled on last week’s “Official Visit” show on 790 the Zone. Tonight, 11 more will be recognized on the show.

Cobb Beat, April 23-29: Warrior tennis grabs No. 2 seed; Trojan baseball on eight-game winning streak

The North Cobb men’s tennis team suffered a tough loss to Etowah last week, falling 3-2 in the Region 5, Class5A championships on April 14. The Warriors jumped out to a quick lead with both Hunter Reese and Evan Stack recording singles victories. Reese, the No. 1 singles player for the Warriors, made quick work of his competition, Garrison LeDuca, winning by scores of 6-1 and 6-2. Meanwhile, Stack, the No. 3 player claimed victories of 6-1 and 6-3 over Sam Kinsman. Read more >

Cobb Beat: April 16-22

Spring is in the air, and with it, baseball fever is here.
Pope, last year’s Class 5A champion, dropped an 11-4 contest to Lassiter on Friday before falling to Harrison on Saturday by the score of 9-5. With the losses, Pope dropped their record to 11-5. The Greyhounds will look to get back on track when they take on Region opponents Walton, Centennial, and Wheeler this week. Read more >
