PREP BEAT: Woodstock gives No. 2 Wildcats all they can handle

Wheeler has a long history of basketball tradition for both boys and girls. But the boys have had a lot of success under head coach Doug Lipscomb, winning five state titles since 1994. The girls are looking to have the same success and they looked to get an important win over region-rival Woodstock on Friday, but they came up short, losing 58-50 in a tough region battle. PREP BEAT: Eagles edge stubborn Woodstock 7-3

Taylor Heinicke has thrown for over 3000 yards this season and has set a new single-season touchdown record for Gwinnett County. Friday night the Collins Hill quarterback was hit early and often and didn’t pass for his typical 300 yards or toss his 3+ touchdowns, but his one score was enough as the Eagles beat Woodstock 7-3. North Clayton 20, Banneker 6: North Clayton (4-1) held on for a 20-6 win after leading 20-0 at the half against host Banneker (3-3). Adalius Matthews ran for 106 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries for the Eagles. Michael Ross added 28 yards rushing to go along with three catches for 74 yards for North Clayton.

Westminster 27, Blessed Trinity 15: Westminster (3-2) got receiving touchdowns of 43 and 40 yards from Khamal Brown and a 2-yard rushing score from Ralph David Abernathy IV to defeat visiting Blessed Trinity (3-2). The Wildcats also blocked and recovered a punt in the end zone for a score. Spencer McManes had two rushing touchdowns (19 and 16 yards) for the Titans. Read more >

Dalton 21, Allatoona 17: Matt Cobb ran for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter to put Dalton (3-1) past visiting Allatoona (3-1) despite two rushing scores from Miles Jones. Dalton’s Robert Hardaway ran a blocked punt back for a score before the half to give the Catamounts a 14-10 lead. Tre Beck scored Dalton’s first touchdown of the night on a short run after his 70-yard gain put the ball on the Allatoona 5.

Kell 20, East Paulding 13: Host Kell (4-0) scored the game-winning touchdown with 35 seconds remaining when Brian Randolph ran for a 34-yard touchdown. East Paulding’s Kamanti Thomas scored on a 2-yard run with 1:09 left in the second quarter but the Raiders (3-1) missed the PAT. In the third, Sean Ashley ran in a 2-yard touchdown to give the Raiders a 13-6 lead. Read more >
