The Dream had a chance to get back to where they wanted to be and that is being over .500. On June 19, they started their five-game homestand against the Minnesota Lynx. The Dream fell to Minnesota but bounced back to defeat Chicago two days later. Read more >

If the Dream want to reach the WNBA Finals for the second consecutive year, they have to match the intensity of their opponent. So far, they have struggled to do so on a consistent basis. After losing the first three games of the season, the Dream finally got a win on June 14 against the New York Liberty. They looked to keep the momentum going against the Minnesota Lynx last Friday, but thanks to 25 points from Seimone August, Minnesota defeated the Dream 96-85 in Minneapolis. The Lynx took control of the game early in the third quarter, as they went on a 13-0 run. Lindsey Whalen scored five points during the run and ended her day with 16 points. Former Collins Hill standout Maya Moore scored 13 points while Rebekkah Brunson had 18 points and 14 rebounds to earn her fifth straight double-double. Read more >

Although the Atlanta Dream clinched a playoff spot with a win against Chicago on August 14th, the last five out of six games have been “nightmarish” dropping each of them. They hoped for better luck with the Washington Mystics coming to Philips Arena. The Mystics were fighting for the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Eastern Conference Playoffs. The Dream raced out the a 4-0 lead but that would soon change as costly turnovers would change the momentum as the Mystic would go on a run to lead 7-4 at the 6:09 mark in the 1st quarter. Both teams would try to use their quickness and run but not be able to score the ball effectively, missing layup after layup. Eventually the Mystics would take command of the half-court and take 15-9 advantage spearheaded by former Duke Star Monique Currie who had a game high 20 points. Read more >
Guard Iziane Castro Marques and Angel McCoughtry both participated in the “Stars at the Sun” this past Saturday. The only problem is that both players played against each other on opposing teams. This year’s WNBA All-Star game showcased a meeting of the USA women’s basketball team against a team comprised of top WNBA talent.

The Atlanta Dream started with promise in the 2008 inaugural season. But despite the amount of excitement surrounding the team, the Dream went on to win a total of only four games out of a 34-game schedule. Atlanta’s horrendous season set the record for most losses by any WNBA franchise, and appeared to doom the Dream to nothing but further disappointment.
However, a revamped Atlanta team finished the 2009 season with a playoff berth and an astounding 18 wins. This season, the Dream currently are atop the Eastern Conference with 14 wins at the halfway point of the season. Atlanta’s miraculous rise to the top of the Eastern Conference from being the worst team in the WNBA just two years ago can be considered one of the best recent turnarounds in professional sports. Guards Angel McCoughtry and Iziane Castro Marques each had 32 points and center Erika de Souza had a team high 13 rebounds as the Atlanta Dream (14-5) rallied to beat the Connecticut Sun (10-8) in an overtime thriller by a score of 108-103. The Dream’s 108 points marks the highest scoring total for the Atlanta franchise and the second most ever allowed by Connecticut. McCoughtry and Marques’ 32 point totals marks the first time that the Sun have ever allowed two players to have 30 or more points in a game. Atlanta finished the six game home stand with an impressive 5-1 record, the only loss coming by way of Chicago last weekend. The loss for Connecticut is the Sun’s third in a row and drops them to third place in the Eastern Conference. Atlanta allowed three double-digit leads to evaporate throughout the game. Read more >
With 1:01 remaining in the fourth quarter, Angel McCoughtry stole the ball away from the Sky guard and looked to make a wide open lay-up to give the Atlanta Dream (13-5) two points to tie the ball game at 82-82. McCoughtry missed the lay-up and the Chicago Sky (8-9) held on to beat the Dream inside Philips Arena for the second time this season with an 88-82 victory.
The loss snaps the Dream’s four-game winning streak and puts the only blemish in Atlanta’s current six-game home stand. McCoughtry finished the night with a team-high 20 points despite shooting 5-for-20 from the floor. Chicago center Sylvia Fowles led the Sky with 22 points, 12 rebounds, and three blocked shots; dominating Atlanta inside the paint.

After a second half rally against the Los Angeles Sparks Sunday afternoon, head coach Marynell Meadors laughed that she should start calling her team "the cardiac kids." Apparently, the name stuck as the Atlanta Dream (12-4) rallied from yet another second-half deficit to beat the defending WNBA champion Phoenix Mercury (5-10) by a score of 94-88. The Mercury led at one point by 14 points, but, in typical Dream fashion, Atlanta played a fantastic second half forcing numerous Mercury turnovers and dominating inside the paint. Center Alison Bales hit a field goal from the top of the key to give the Dream an 80-78 lead with 8:08 left in the game. The shot gave Atlanta the lead for the first time since early in the first quarter. Read more >

With 6:53 remaining in the fourth quarter, guard Iziane Castro Marque hit a three-pointer to give the Atlanta Dream (11-4) a 72-69 lead, their first lead of the game. The Dream would go on to hold the lead and win their third straight home game defeating the Los Angeles Sparks (3-10) by a score of 89-81. L.A. controlled a 16-point lead at one point during a sluggish and problematic first half. The Dream trailed L.A. 49-38 at halftime.
"They did exactly what they wanted to do in the first half," said head coach Marynell Meadors, "We allowed that to happen, so we cant let that happen anymore, we have to play better defense."
The Dream responded in typical fashion starting the third quarter on an 11-4, hitting their first five shots in a row. Read more >

Kid’s Day ended at Philips Arena on a positive note as the Dream (10-4) held off a second-half surge from the Tulsa Shock (3-9) to win 96-90. Atlanta improved to 3-1 in the past four games and 5-1 at home in Philips Arena. Atlanta began the game on an 11-3 run in the first period and extended the lead to 18 at one point in the first half. Center Erika de Souza scored 15 points of her 19 total points in the first period and the Dream looked on pace for a dominating win. "That’s how Erika plays, she finally had a really good game," commented head coach Marynell Meadors, "She hasn’t played that well since she’s been back from overseas." Read more >

The Atlanta Dream (8-3) used a late third quarter run to sweep the season series against the San Antonio Silver Stars (3-6) by a score of 90-83 at Phillips Arena. Forward Sancho Lyttle had 24 points and 12 rebounds, while MVP candidate Angel McCoughtry scored 23 points in the win.
