Week 5 Baseball Rankings

In Class 6A, No. 1 ranked Etowah has recently climbed to No. 8 in the MaxPreps National poll and is 11-1 this season with its only loss coming in a three-game series that the Eagles won 2-of-3 against North Paulding. The Wolfpack were No. 3 in last week’s poll after taking 1-of-3 against No. 1 Etowah, however, North Paulding slid down this week to No. 7 after getting swept by No. 2 Walton and dropping their fifth game in the last six outings. Parkview, Buford, North Gwinnett and Lowndes each moved up one spot after North Paulding movement to No. 7 and Tift County knocked Lambert out of the poll and debuts at No. 9.

Houston County maintained its position at No. 1 in Class 5A and is 10-3 with its only in-state loss coming in extra innings to Oconee County (3-1 in 8 innings). This loss came after a 9-0 win over the Warriors in the opening game of the Feb. 22 double-header. Houston County recently swept Northside-Warner Robins in a three-game series by a combined 40-1. Up next, the Bears will face Veterans on Tuesday before a double-header on Friday. Veterans just took two of three games against Thomas County Central in Region 1 and would benefit tremendously if they are able to earn a win over the front-running Bears in their upcoming three-game stretch. Dunwoody moved up to No. 3 after its 11-1 start and current 11-game win-streak and Loganville jumped up to No. 4 after serving previously No. 3 ranked Winder-Barrow a 2-0 win in eight innings. Loganville and Winder-Barrow will square off again tonight. Effingham County moved up to No. 8 after improving to 13-2 and Greenbrier slid from No. 6 to No. 9 after a 4-6 start and a pair of losses to Harlem, Morgan County and Winder-Barrow.

Blessed Trinity took over No. 1 in Class 4A this week. The Titans defeated previous No. 1 ranked North Oconee 9-4 last Monday and have won six-straight games to fuel their 9-2 start. The Titans dropped a 7-5 game in extra innings to Class 6A No. 2 Walton in their season opener and the only other loss came in a 9-8 defeat to Alabama’s American Christian Academy before compiling 6-straight victories. Class 4A has become even more crowded with the top 10 and programs like Central-Carroll, Harris County, Ola, East Forsyth and Benedictine are strong candidates to shake up the poll in the coming weeks. Starr’s Mill has won 10-straight after an 0-3 start and sits at No. 6.

Class 3A No. 1 Harlem improved to 13-0 and Pickens moved up to No. 2 this week after Cherokee Bluff moved down to No. 9 following a tough 4-8 start. North Hall and Whitewater replaced Mary Persons and Jefferson in this week’s poll. Gordon Lee took over No. 1 in Class A Div. I this week after its 8-0 start and Social Circle moved down one spot to No. 2. Prince Avenue replaced Holy Innocents’ at No. 1 in Class A-3A Private
