Pope’s senior goalkeeper Addison Daughtry has had a stellar start to the soccer season. She has yet to allow a goal through two games and against 6A No. 7 Campbell, she faced intense pressure, which tested her mettle early in the year.
With the Greyhounds unable to score, Daughtry needed to be perfect for the entire match. The game ultimately went to a shootout, where she excelled once again, allowing just three goals on five attempts to help Pope secure their second win of the season.
While the Greyhounds didn’t score any goals against Campbell, they netted four in their season opening match against Wheeler. Three of their four goals came from underclassmen. Senior Addison Adair is the only upperclassman to have scored so far this season. Juniors Lily Joswick and Clair Huebecker each found the net in the season opener, and sophomore Paloma Bernard showcased the potential she displayed in her five goal freshman season by scoring her first goal of the year in the same game. Pope faces another big challenge on Saturday when they take on 4A No. 5 St. Pius X.
