Atlanta Classical star guard Miller McGowan commits to Stetson University

Atlanta Classical Academy guard Miller McGowan has found a college home after he announced on his social media page X that he had committed to Stetson University.

“Stetson is a great fit both in terms of playstyle and the environment the coaching staff creates in attempts to provide their players with a winning culture and amazing college basketball experience,” said McGowan.

The underrated guard from Atlanta Classical Academy had a dominant senior season. He averaged 30.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 3.7 steals per game, which are career-highs in points, assists, blocks, and steals. He was also named Region 1 Class A Div. 2 Player of the Year. McGowan had an incredible seven-game scoring stretch in February where he averaged 39 points per game. To put it simple, McGowan is a microwave capable of going off for points in bunches when he establishes a rhythm. There is not much a defense can do to slow him down or get him off schedule.

McGowan has been a prolific scorer since he began his varsity prep career, averaging 29.6 points as a sophomore and 25.2 points as a junior. An area where his game has continued to progress over his high school career is his shooting and free-throw percentage. Every year, he improved in these key categories, continuing to elevate his game. McGowan finished his prep career with over 2,300 career points. He is also a three-time all-region honoree and an all-state basketball player.

When he wasn’t playing for Atlanta Classical Academy, he suited up for the On The Perimeter basketball team. That is where he also made a name for himself, showcasing his elite scoring ability and the continued improvement of his perimeter defense where he became a pest, reading passing lines and disrupting players on the other end. He will now take that with him to Stetson in hopes of turning around the program in Florida.

Stetson had a tough year in the Atlantic Sun and as a team finished 8-24 overall and 6-12 in conference play this year. The good thing for the Hatters is that more reinforcements are coming, and they quietly have a really good recruiting class coming in. McGowan joins Riverwood standout guard JR Leonard in the Class of 2025, with both guards coming from Georgia. Leonard is one of the best scorers in the 2025 class from Georgia and already has championship experience on his resume, winning a state title in 2024 with the Riverwood Raiders.

“I’ve known JR for a little bit now, and I’m ready to work with like-minded people who are all about the work and culture just like him,” said McGowan.

Stetson will now have two of the best scorers set to hit campus in the fall.
