Brent Key and Georgia Tech land eight in-state players in June for their 2026 class

Georgia Tech had a solid month of June for recruiting for their 2026 class. The Yellow Jackets landed 12 players last month, including eight in-state players as they now have 13 commits from the state of Georgia. Here is a deep look at the eight in-state players that head coach Brent Key and the Yellow Jackets landed last month.

OT Courtney Heard – East Coweta

Heard dominates at left tackle for East Coweta. He allowed the run game to flourish as the Indians averaged 144.6 rushing yards per game. Heard received an offer from Georgia Tech on January 29th. He committed on June 8th after an official visit with the Yellow Jackets on June 6th, choosing Tech over Georgia, Florida State, and Florida.

S Darnell Collins – Rome

Collins had a solid junior season for the Wolves as he totaled 31 tackles, two tackles for loss, three pass breakups, two interceptions, three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. He allows little separation between him and the receiver he is guarding, and when he plays in zone coverage he is able to help his teammates who are in man coverage and get after the ball for a deflection or interception. Collins received an offer from the Jackets on January 24th, took an official visit to Atlanta on May 30th, and committed on June 2nd choosing Georgia Tech over schools like Kentucky, Indiana, and NC State.

OT Courtlin Heard – East Coweta

The twin brother of Courtney made his presence known at the right tackle position for East Coweta. His lockdown ability gives the quarterback multiple options that consist of a quarterback keep or a short pass over the middle. Heard gives the quarterback at least three-seconds in the pocket to help with deciding on a play. Just like his brother, he received an offer from Coach Key on January 29th, had an official visit on June 6th, and committed on June 8th choosing the Yellow Jackets over Georgia, Florida State, and Florida.

TE Jack Richerson – Marist

Richerson runs a solid crossing route for Marist. His 6-4 frame makes it difficult for defenders to bring him down and limit him to a short gain on receptions. Richerson earned a lot of recognition for his junior season as he was named First Team All-Region for Region 5-4A, First Team All-County, and First Team All-State for Class 4A. He was given an offer from Georgia Tech on January 25th, took an official visit on May 30th, and committed on June 20th as he chose Tech over schools like Duke, Indiana, and Wake Forest.

OT Bear Fretwell – Southeast Bulloch

Fretwell is not afraid to bring aggression to his matchups against opposing defensive linemen. He is a hard hitting tackle and succeeds on the left side of the offensive line. Fretwell earned an offer from Georgia Tech on May 6th, officially visited the Jackets on June 13th, and committed to them on June 15th over Cincinnati and Northwestern.

WR Jeremy Winston – Rome

Winston had a breakout season with Rome as he collected 703 yards on 34 receptions, and added 10 touchdowns to his junior season stats. He creates a lot of separation on the majority of go routes that he runs due to the speed he has. Winston also dominates on wheel routes when he gets a big gap to run through allowing him to turn on the jets. He received an offer from the Jackets on January 24th, made an official visit on May 31st, and committed on June 2nd over schools like Wisconsin, Virginia Tech, Kentucky, and Indiana.

WR Isaac Obrokta – Rabun Gap

Obrokta transferred to Rabun Gap from The First Academy in Orlando. He shows a lot of speed and elusiveness out on the field. Obrokta dominates on go and seam routes with his speed, and on the short comeback and curl routes he makes the opposing team use a lot of defenders to make a stop on him. He was offered by the Yellow Jackets on February 6th, did an official visit on May 30th, and committed on June 18th. He chose Tech over Florida State and UCF.

P Jonathan Genty – Blessed Trinity

Genty on 40 punts averaged 36.3 yards of distance with his longest punt going for 73 yards. He had 17 punts land inside the 20-yard line. Genty received an offer from Georgia Tech on June 17th and he committed on June 20th, choosing the Yellow Jackets over Army, UConn, and Missouri.

As we are now in the early part of July, it will be interesting to see how Brent Key and the Yellow Jackets do with continuing to build their 2026 class. They are off to a solid start so far as they landed another in-state player with Kell TE Nathan Agyemang committing on July 1st.
