Brookwood off to fast start

Brookwood claimed both the boys and girls titles at the Eagle Icebreaker Invitational at Collins Hill High School Saturday. Simone Glenn took the 100 -meter dash and finished second to Mill Creek’s Malayshia George in the 200-meter dash. The Broncos added more points with high finishes in the 1600-meter run, 3200-meter run and 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles. McEachern won several relay events to finish fourth behind Brookwood, Mill Creek and Berkmar. Queen Briggs took home a big victory for Berkmar in the discus throw. Bola Hambolu took home honors in the girls long jump and triple jump for the hosts. … The Brookwood boys finished well ahead of second-place Greenbrier and third-place Mill Creek. The Broncos found success in the pole vault and high jump. Josh Ingalls also won the 1600-meter run for Brookwood. Greenbrier racked up most of its points in the short dashes and in the short relays. Grayson football standout Aares McCall finished sixth in the 100-meter dash as the Rams finished sixth overall. … Leading into the Eagle Icebreaker Invitational, Brookwood squared off in a dual meet with Mill Creek and Jared Munday impressed in the shot put and discus. Munday earned 12 points between the two events for Brookwood, launching the shot put 48-01.75, well past second-place finisher Nick Jasper of Mill Creek. Munday also easily outdistanced Mill Creek’s Kaleb Kim in the discus. Brookwood also took the boys pole vault, long jump and triple jump events. Mill Creek’s Tyler Woodrome won the 1600-meter run and finished third in the 800-meter run. Michael Cheeks of Mill Creek claimed the 200- and 400-meter dashes. … As for the girls, Kelsey Gray of Mill Creek won the discus throw event by a healthy margin but came up just short in the shot put event to teammate Dami Agboola. Brookwood’s Claire Cashin earned the win in the 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles while Mill Creek’s Lauren Hovis took home the top prize in the 800-meter run and 1600-meter run. Brookwood’s Glenn beat out teammate Kristen Fontenot in the 100- and 200-meter runs.
