When Buford beat Dacula 5-0 on Tuesday, head coach Tony Wolfe, who has been coaching the Wolves since 2007, surpassed a milestone. The win marked his 400th at Buford and improved his career record to 400-71-2.
Wolfe began coaching the Buford softball team in 2007, leading the Wolves to ten-straight state championships in his first ten seasons. The un-rivaled start of his career followed an extremely storied stint coaching other sports in Buford’s high-caliber athletics program.
However, once leading the softball program, Wolfe became prolific. From 2007-2011, Buford won the Class AA title each season. After reclassification, Buford won championships in Class AAA (2012-13), Class AAAA (2014-15) and Class AAAAA in 2016, its last state title.
As head baseball coach at Buford from 1996-2017, Wolfe amassed a 441-192 record and won state championships in 2011 and 2015 while winning eight region titles. From 1996-2006, he was an assistant football coach under Dexter Wood and won state titles in 2001, 2002 and 2003.
Throughout his career, Wolfe has won countless coaching awards including the GACA State Softball Coach of the Year (2007-2016) and the Georgia Dugout Club State Softball Coach of the Year (2007-2016).
Buford is ranked No. 10 in Class AAAAAA, after moving up from AAAAA, and will face Class AAAA No. 1 Heritage-Catoosa in the Hawk Invitational at Mill Creek on Saturday.
