Carver-Columbus star WR KJ Miles commits to UNC

Standout receiver KJ Miles will join legendary head coach Bill Belichick in the college ranks. Miles is the second receiver the Tar Heels have taken in this class and the first player from Georgia. Miles took a visit to Chapel Hill at the end of March and made his commitment to the Tar Heels a month before his official visit at the end of May. He also had an official visit set to Memphis for June 6th. The relationship with the Tar Heels has continued to develop over the past few months, leading to his decision.

According to 247Sports Composite, Miles is a 3-star prospect, the No. 83 player in Georgia, No. 128 WR, and the No. 794 player nationally. Before choosing the Tar Heels, Miles had 18 offers with notable ones from Georgia, Georgia Tech, Texas A&M, Memphis, USC, Wake Forest, and West Virginia. Georgia was a program pushing hard for Miles and could ramp it up this spring and summer trying to flip him, potentially. It will certainly be a storyline to watch moving forward. Here is more on that per Jeremy Johnson of On3 back in January:

“Georgia is the school that I grew up watching and being attached to since I was a little kid,” Miles told DawgsHQ. “I’ve been following the program my entire life, my family are Georgia fans including myself.”

North Carolina has the commitment which is most important, but it isn’t over until it’s over. With how great of a player Miles is, expect teams to continue to apply pressure.

Miles has continued to make his name on the gridiron churning out big-time performances. He is no stranger to dominating, especially on the big stage. He was instrumental in bringing Carver-Columbus its first state championship since 2007. In the state title game against Burke County, he would not be denied. Miles finished with seven receptions for 179 yards and three touchdowns in a dominant 52-14 win. He was named All-Finals Offense by GPB and a top-10 performer by ITG Next in the state championship.

When you watch his film, you instantly see a deep threat and big-play receiver. He doesn’t need a lot of catches to have a big impact in the game. Once he gets in the open field with the ball in his hands, it is hard to slow him down. He makes it look easy with how open he consistently is, a credit to his route running, elite speed, and connection he has with his quarterback Mathew Mungin. With his 6’3″ frame and ability to move effortlessly, he gives defenses fits, especially secondaries trying to slow him down.

Although this is a new era under coach Belichick at North Carolina, the Tar Heels are no stranger to producing high-end receivers who have gone on to make it to the NFL. Hakeem Nicks, Josh Downs, Joshua Ezeudu, Mack Hollins, Antoine Green, Devontez “Tez” Walker, Kyler McMichael, and M.J. Stewart are a few to name. North Carolina knows how to develop receivers so they are ready for the next level, and it will be no different in the new regime.
