Centennial, Lambert lacrosse advance

The Centennial Knights held off Harrison 13-11 to reach the first state championship game in the program’s history. The Knight got off to a strong start thanks to three early goals. Centennial was able to force several turnovers to keep Harrison at arm’s length for most of the match. The Hoyas did cut the lead to 7-6 at one point in the second quarter, but Centennial rattled off three straight goals to open the second half. Zach Levy and Brendan Spence came up with big goals to push Centennial to the victory. Levy would score four for Centennial while Nate Solomon netted a pair. … Lambert jumped out to a 5-2 lead over Roswell after the first quarter and was able to expand the three-goal advantage to a 9-5 lead at intermission in the semifinals of the Class AAAAAA playoffs. The Longhorns’ defense clamped down in the second half, allowing just one goal in the third quarter as Lambert led 15-6 enter the fourth. Roswell could not come close to a goal in the final period as the Longhorns prevailed 17-6. Lambert won the 2011 and 2012 Class A-AAAA titles but will now go for its first Class AAAAAA crown at Centennial this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. … In girls A-AAAAA action from last night, McIntosh edged past Northview 10-6 while Westminster ended Starr’s Mill’s season 13-7. Westminster has won the last three A-AAAA titles while McIntosh returns to the finals for the second straight season. Last year, Westminster beat McIntosh 10-9 in Peachtree City. The two teams will meet at Westminster this Saturday. The other finals will be the Lassiter girls traveling to Milton and the Northview boys hitting the road to face Westminster.
