Central-Carrollton RB Jonaz Walton announces commitment to Notre Dame

One of the top running backs in the state of Georgia in the Class of 2026, Central-Carrollton 4-star running back Jonaz Walton, announced his commitment to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish last week.

Walton held a full offer sheet, consisting of over 30 offers from some of the top schools in the country such as Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, Florida State and Georgia before ultimately deciding on the Fighting Irish to continue his high school career.

Walton was a big part of the Lions success from a season ago as Central-Carrollton finished the 2024 season with a 9-3 record overall and a 5-1 record in Region 3-4A play.

During his junior season a year ago, Walton was a workhorse for the Lions as he finished the year with 1,387 yards and 14 touchdowns on the ground on 188 carries as he finished the season with seven games over 100 yards, averaging 115.6 yards per game last season.

While Walton led the Lions in rushing a season ago, he also led Central-Carrollton in receiving yards, proving to be a reliable option out of the backfield for sophomore quarterback J.R. Harris in his second season as a starting quarterback for the Lions.

In his junior season, Walton finished with 39 receptions for 646 yards and four receiving touchdowns through the air, averaging 16.6 yards per catch and 53.8 yards per game, putting his versatility on full display in 2024.

According to 247Sports.com, the recruiting site has him rated as the No. 125 player in the country and the ninth-best running back in the nation, along with being a top-20 player in the state of Georgia.

At 5-foot-9, 205 pounds, Walton is a running back that is at his best when he runs between the tackles and is able to get into that second-level with ease.

Walton is the second 4-star running back to join the Fighting Irish in its Class of 2026 recruiting class as him and Javian Osborne out of Forney, Texas look to be a scary duo for years to come.
