Arkansas State is no stranger to recruiting the state of Georgia. They landed former Wheeler standout and three-star Josh Hill in the 2023 class. They landed another good player in CJ Geathers, who committed to the Wolves.
Geathers is known for his athletic prowess and his finishing ability around the rim, but he is more than just that. He is also a great all-around athlete and jumped 6’8 to win the Coleman Track meet earlier in the season. Geathers has a number of notable games this past season, including a 17-point outing in a 70-66 win over McDonough in the Atlanta Holiday Classic.
Another was a 30-point performance against Canarsie (NY) where he threw down four explosive dunks. I got the chance to see him in the Battle In The Peach earlier in the basketball season where he put on a show proving that he can be a lob threat, finish around the rim, be a playmaker and defend at a high level.

CJ impacted the game on both floors scoring double figures and notching a game-high in blocks. He scored on all three levels and showcased his athleticism.

Here is more when I wrote about him back in January.
“Geathers has been special this season for the Chapel Hill Panthers. He is averaging 20 points per game this season for the Panthers and is a go-to scoring option on offense. Defensively, he uses his athleticism to sky and block shots even against taller players. He has good lateral quickness and stays in front of his opponent making them take difficult shots or poking the ball loose and getting steals that lead to easy transition buckets. Offensively, he is a great slasher who can get to the cup and finish through traffic or put you on a poster with a dunk. I got the chance to see him in the Battle of the Peach back in December and was impressed with the way he commanded the basketball and put the team on his back. Geathers is another good player who just needs a chance at the next level.”
The Wolves saw a major overhaul of their 2024-2025 roster. With Izaiyah Nelson, Joseph Pinion, Terrance Ford Jr, Derrian Ford, and Josh Hill all hitting the transfer portal. The Wolves will bring in Chandler Jackson from Florida State, Jalen Hampton from Montana State, Chudi Dioramma from Sacramento State, Fredy-Salam Sylla from Eastern Florida State College, Aly Tounkara from Conakry, Guinea, Jaxon Ellingsworth from UT Arlington, and Christian Harmon from Gulf Coast State College.
For Arkansas State, 2025 commits include Geathers and Royal Smith who will be some of the young guys joining the roster. In college basketball a lot of coaches look for plug-and-play guys who can make an instant impact, Geathers is certainly more than capable but will have to battle veteran wings players to see the court early in his career. Geathers is a great story of an underrated guy who continued to put his head down and work. No, he wasn’t ranked and didn’t have the stars but every time you watch him play he would put on a show and prove why he was a Division 1 caliber talent.
