Marist guard Kate Harpring adds yet another accolade to her collection as one of the top players in the Class of 2026 has been named the 2024-25 Georgia Girls Basketball Gatorade Player of the Year.
Rated as the No. 1 overall recruit in the Class of 2026 according to 247Sports.com, it is no secret that Harpring’s skillset separates her from the competition. The junior guard is coming off of an incredible season where she averaged over 32 points, 11 rebounds and four assists and just over five steals per game.
Harpring led Marist to a 29-3 record overall and a first place finish in Region 5-4A with a 16-0 record, as well as an appearance in the Class 4A state semifinals where the War Eagles fell to the eventual state champions, Creekside, 54-43.
The War Eagles were coming off of a Class 6A state championship a season ago as Harpring helped Marist earn the schools second state championship in three seasons.
Rated as the top-recruit in next year’s class, Harpring holds offers from all major women’s college basketball schools such as UConn, LSU, Iowa, South Carolina and North Carolina as each program has continued to heavily recruit her.
With one more season left of high school basketball, the junior guard has already eclipsed 2,500 points as well as 500 rebounds in her career at Marist and has continued to impress when she steps on the court.
Harpring is the first player from Marist to win the award and joins a long list of tremendous names that have recently won the award such as current-Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket Danielle Carnegie from Grayson last season, Stanford’s Courtney Ogden from Westminster School, Florida State’s Sydney Bowles from Woodward Academy, and South Carolina’s Raven Johnson from Westlake.
Harpring comes from a basketball family as her father, Matt Harpring, played in the NBA for 12 seasons from 1998-2009, playing for four different teams.
Harpring and the War Eagles will be right back in the fold next season as they will look to win their third title in five seasons.
