Class 4A Blog: Players to watch ahead of 2025 football season

For the last few seasons, great players have competed in Class 4A in Georgia high school football and have left their mark before going on to do some great things.

Whether it was Trevor Lawrence winning two state championships with Cartersville and becoming the No. 1 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Or, if it’s Landon Roldan, bursting onto the national recruiting spotlight a year ago and winning North Oconee its first state championship in program history, the list goes on and on.

Looking ahead to the 2025 season in Class 4A, the classification is home to some of the top talent in the state including a handful of major recruits that sit at the top of national recruiting rankings.

Here is an early look at some of the top players in Class 4A going into the 2025 season:

EDGE, DJ Jacobs (Blessed Trinity, Class of 2027)

At 6-foot-5, 220 pounds, Jacobs is a force to handle off the edge and made his presence known in his first two seasons of high school football. Jacobs comes from a football family as his father, David Jacobs, was a former offensive lineman at Georgia and his brother, Dawson, is also a member of the Titans front seven. In his sophomore campaign a season ago, Jacobs led the team in major categories such as total tackles and tackles for loss, totaling 116 tackles and an astonishing 31 tackles for loss leading Blessed Trinity to a Region 6-4A championship as well as a semifinals appearance before losing to eventual state champion, North Oconee. As a freshman in 2023, Jacobs earned honors such as Region 7-6A Rookie of the Year and MaxPreps Freshman All-American honors as he has begun to accumulate numerous offers from some of the top college football programs around the country. Jacobs has earned offers from places such as Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Ohio State, Texas and more.

EDGE, LaDamion Guyton (Benedictine, Class of 2027)

Guyton is another rising-junior that has burst onto the Georgia high school football scene in his first two seasons of varsity football. He is currently rated as a 4-star on 247Sports.com as the recruiting site has him nowhere lower than the second best player in the state in the Class of 2027, with him and Jacobs slotted as two of the top players in not only the state, but as top-5 players in the nation. Over the offseason, Guyton transferred from Savannah Christian, where he played alongside Class of 2025 top-recruit Elijah Griffin, and has enrolled at Benedictine where he will finish out his prep career. Guyton put together a stellar sophomore season alongside Griffin as the edge rusher totaled 52 total tackles and 13.5 tackles for loss while also totaling 6.5 sacks a season ago.

RB Quinterrius “Moonie” Gipson (Kell, Class of 2027)

After averaging over 150 yards on the ground per game a season ago, Gipson has already taken his game to the next level as he did during his sophomore season. The rising-junior led the Longhorns in total yardage by over 1,200 yards, totaling 1,683 yards on the ground to go along with 222 yards receiving on 16 receptions with a grand total of 1,905 yards on the season. Gipson stands at 5-foot-8, 205-pounds, has a great blend of size and speed and will make for an effective all-purpose back when he makes the transition to college football. Gipson has started to receive offers from major college programs such as Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Georgia Tech and Miami as the numbers will continue to improve in his final two years of high school football.

IOL Bear McWhorter (Cass, Class of 2026)

A 3-star recruit out of Cass High School, McWhorter has set a commitment date for the end of the month on February 28th as he has dwindled his decision down to five schools: Alabama, Florida, Michigan, Clemson and South Carolina. McWhorter is an offensive lineman that moves around the line playing both at tackle and guard. At 6-foot-4, 293 pounds, McWhorter is a hard person to move off of the line as he is more than capable of being an effective blocker in both the run and pass game.

EDGE Justin Weeks (Pace Academy, Class of 2027)

One of the many underrated prospects in Class 4A, Weeks is a problem off the edge for the Pace Academy defense. Although the Knights finished with a 4-6 record a year ago, snapping a 10-year streak of postseason appearances, Weeks was one of the few bright spots. Weeks has received tons of attention during his first two seasons and is rated as a 5-star on the 247Sports.com Composite Rankings and is slotted nowhere below a top-15 player in the country in the Class of 2027. Weeks’ offer sheet includes teams such as Florida, Arkansas, Georgia Tech, Auburn, South Carolina, Tennessee and Southern Cal as the list will continue to grow over the next two seasons. Weeks and the Knights will look to get back on track in 2025, this time with a brand-new head coach as the school parted ways with former head coach, Nick Bach over the offseason.
