Class A-3A private’s top three girls basketball teams looking to keep championship streaks alive

As the regular season comes to an end, three girls’ basketball teams have positioned themselves at the top of the A-3A private classification. With Hebron Christian, Mount Paran Christian, and St. Francis — that have each won at least two straight championships — the classification was always going to be tough.

However, the dominance these three programs have shown is impressive.

Hebron Christian is the defending 3A champion. With one game left in the season, they have amassed a 22-1 record. The Lions are currently the third-ranked team in the country, according to MaxPreps. Their one loss came in a three-point game against Langston Hughes, the No. 2 team in 5A and one of the top teams in the state. Since the start of region play, the Lions have been unbelievably dominant, winning every region game by at least 43 points, giving up no more than 26 points, and winning six of their eight region games by 60 or more points.

The second-ranked team in the classification is St. Francis. The Knights have been nearly as dominant as Hebron Christian, currently sitting at 21-2 overall. St. Francis’s two losses are nothing to be upset about, a 66-60 loss to Langston Hughes and a 74-64 loss to Conway, the top-ranked team in Arkansas and the No. 15 team in the country. In region play, they have had only two games within 20 points: a 66-48 win over No. 6 Galloway and a 58-51 win over No. 3 Mount Paran. Additionally, eight of their 10 region games were won by 44 points or more, including a 102-25 win over Landmark Christian.

The last of the big three teams is Mount Paran Christian. The Eagles have had a few more ups and downs than Hebron or St. Francis; however, that is not saying much. The Eagles are 22-3 on the season, with those three losses coming in a 47-44 game against Hoover, one of the top teams in Alabama, the previously mentioned 58-51 loss to St. Francis, and an upset loss to No. 6 Galloway, 62-51. However, when Mount Paran plays up to their potential, they are as dominant as either of the two teams ranked above them, with eight of their 10 region wins coming by 46 or more points and holding six of those teams under 20 points.
