The Dublin Fighting Irish flew under the radar as one of the most explosive teams in the state throughout the 2024 Georgia high school football season.
Under longtime head coach Roger Holmes who has been at the helm since 2002, the Fighting Irish have become known for its high-powered offense complimented by a stout defense that is a tall task to handle when firing on all cylinders.
Dublin was once again no stranger to being one of the highest scoring teams in all of the GHSA in 2024.
The Fighting Irish scored a total of 655 points, the fifth-highest mark from a Georgia high school football team this season, only trailing Lee County (745), Hughes (680), Carrollton (671), and Milton (660). Statistically, the 2024 Dublin team stands toe-to-toe with not only some of the states best teams, but some of the best around the country including the likes of Lee County, Carrollton and the public school state champions, the Milton Eagles.
The 655 points scored by the Fighting Irish this season are the most since Dublin scored a whopping 693 points in its state championship season in 2019.
The Dublin offense was led by a four-headed monster in the backfield that amassed 4,447 yards on the ground through 14 games, accounting for over 86% of the Fighting Irish rushing statistics. Senior running back Xavier Bostic totaled 1,351 yards and 20 touchdowns to lead the team in both categories followed by senior running back Willie Batts, who added 1,306 yards and 17 rushing touchdowns. Quarterback Micah O’Neal ran for 924 yards and 18 touchdowns while throwing for 509 yards and eight touchdowns. Sophomore running back Trevion Bostic added 866 yards and 13 rushing touchdowns to round out the explosive Dublin backfield.
With tons of production from last year’s impressive Dublin team graduating, the Fighting Irish will look to retool and make it back to the state championship for the first time in six seasons.
