With members of the Class of 2027 recruiting class emerging into the limelight, there are plenty of names to get to know around the state as Georgia is filled with top talent around the entire class.
Names ranging from top players in the class such as Blessed Trinity’s D.J. Jacobs, Benedictine’s LaDamion Guyton are just the beginning as the Class of 2027 in Georgia is filled with premier talent that many of the major college football programs around the country would be more than happy to have committed to their programs.
In a stacked class, a name that deserves more attention and will be a name to watch out for is Swainsboro linebacker Ja’Bios “Bigfoot” Smith as the junior is rated as a top-100 player in the nation in the Class of 2027.
Last year for the Tigers, Smith averaged eight tackles a game, totaling 88 tackles, five tackles for loss and a pass deflection in just his sophomore year of high school football.
With his recruitment just getting underway, Smith has enjoyed the process thus far and is ready to continue meeting coaches and figuring out what’s the best fit for him to continue his career.
“My recruitment has been going great,” said Smith. “At first it was overwhelming but now that I’ve adjusted to the process of it, I’ve enjoyed learning about all of the programs. I’m looking forward to continuing to grow my relationships with these staffs and eventually deciding where home is. I’ve really liked all of them, to be honest. I’m still kinda wide open and just trying to hear everybody out.”
While the process is just getting started for Smith, a few schools have stood out to him during his recruitment thus far.
“If I had to say my favorites right now it would probably be South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Auburn, Clemson and Penn State in no particular order,” said Smith. “I’m still open to everyone right now, they are all just getting to the phase where they can actually reach out to me so it’s been a pretty cool week of getting to know different coaches and programs.”
While he hasn’t been on any official visits yet to these schools, Smith has taken plenty of unofficial visits and has been to places such as Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Florida State, South Carolina and Tennessee.
“I enjoyed visiting every coaching staff so far,” said Smith. “Now that I can have direct contact with everyone, I’ll likely start focusing on what’s the best fit for me and my family.”
Though he is recruitment is really beginning to ramp up, the 4-star linebacker is looking to release a top-10 by the end of the summer.
“I will probably have a top-10 by the end of the summer that I’ll really focus on,” said Smith. “I wish I could visit and entertain everyone but it’s not possible, so me and my family will sit down before the season and decide who we’ll focus on.”
Smith and the Swainsboro Tigers are looking to rebound following a 4-7 season last year where they lost to Class A-Division 1 runner-up Northeast in the first round of the postseason.
