Class ADI Blog: Final Four set for Class ADI boys soccer state championship

The GHSA Boys Soccer State Championships are drawing to a close in Class A-Division I and now, just four teams remain after Tuesday’s quarterfinals.

The Final Four in Class A-Division I consists of matchups between the Armuchee Indians against the Model Blue Devils at 7:30 p.m. followed by the Thomasville Bulldogs facing off against the Fannin County Rebels as all four teams will compete for a spot in the state championship game being held at McEachern High School.

The top-seeded Model Blue Devils made it to the semifinals following a 5-1 victory over Rabun County in the quarterfinals. Model took a 2-0 lead in the first half thanks to two goals from Evan Drinkard followed by another goal from the junior in just 38 seconds into the second half.

Brennan Dial and Grady Smith scored the final two goals for the Blue Devils and set up a Floyd County-matchup against Armuchee.

Model and Armuchee previously met in the regular season and the Indians came out on top with a 2-1 victory back in February.

The Blue Devils will look to right the ship and avenge the regular season loss against a tough Armuchee team.

The Indians made it to the semifinals following a 2-1 victory over Toombs County in the quarterfinals thanks to goals from junior Leyton Brown and senior Angel Tapia.

Both Model and Armuchee are riding three-game winning streaks into the semifinals as both schools lost their final games of the regular season.

On the opposite side of the bracket, six-seeded Thomasville upset three-seeded Jeff Davis on the road with a final score of 2-1.

The Bulldogs avenged a 3-1 loss to Jeff Davis from back in mid-March and Thomasville is riding a four-game win-streak into its matchup against Fannin County.

The Bulldogs and the Rebels will matchup for the first time this season with hopes for a trip to McEachern for the state championship game alive and well.

Out of the four teams left in the semifinals, Model, Armuchee and Fannin County are each looking for their first-ever boys soccer state championship, while the Thomasville is seeking the program’s third overall after winning it 2010 and 2019.
