COACH’S JOURNAL: Senior leaders vital to establishing a foundation

New Centennial football coach Jeffrey Carlberg is quickly putting his fingerprints all over the Knights program, and he has invited Score along for the ride during his first year at the helm. Here are highlights from last week.

Our 7-on-7 camp was really a success. We drew teams from Pennsylvania, Florida, Michigan, Maryland as well as from all across Georgia. A team out of Jacksonville, Fla. beat Team Georgia in the finals. It was great to watch some football and the talent was simply incredible. Much like AAU basketball events, this tournament was comprised of teams not affiliated with schools.

Last Tuesday, I met with our coordinators together for the first time to discuss spring ball and the installation of our offense and defense. Both of them are outstanding coaches and they share my excitement about the prospects of coaching at Centennial.

Last week, I also met with a sporting goods rep to order 40 additional helmets. Our helmet inventory was a little weak, so we had to order a relatively high number of helmets this year. I also met with a fundraising expert to discuss our “friends and family” fundraiser that we will do in July.

The most important part of my week though was the individual senior meetings that I have been holding. This has been a chance for our seniors to get to know me and vice versa. We are setting our goals and the foundation for the upcoming season.
