Support Craig Sager and Other Patients on World Blood Cancer Day

Atlanta, GA : For over 30 years Craig Sager has won the hearts of audiences across the country with his passion for the sports he covers and the signature suits that have become synonymous with his name. During this year’s NBA playoffs though, those suits have been noticeably absent as Craig’s recent diagnosis with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) has kept him on the sidelines. Craig has currently returned home from three weeks of being in the hospital. While in the hospital, he had learned that for many patients with blood cancer, a bone marrow transplant from a matching donor is the only treatment that can save their lives. Now, Craig’s family and friends are working with Delete Blood Cancer to register potential bone marrow donors for those fighting blood cancers.

When the Sager family learned that 2014 marks the inaugural year of World Blood Cancer Day, on May 28th, they saw the opportunity to issue a larger call to action. As an international day of awareness and action against blood cancers and blood disorders, Craig’s community of supporters are using this day of recognition to rally support for this incredible cause and register potential life-savers in the Atlanta area.

“I lost my mother to leukemia when I was 14,” stated Katharina Harf, Co-Founder of Delete Blood Cancer, “and I have made it my mission to recruit more donors so that other families don’t have to go through the pain we did. The Sager family needs your help so we can save more lives.”

Help Craig raise awareness about blood cancer and register potential lifesaver at Jocks and Jills, the Sager family restaurant, on Wednesday, May 28th from 11:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. In addition to registering potential bone marrow donors, there will be fundraising opportunities to help relieve the costs associated with registering new donors. All proceeds and donations from the event will go to Delete Blood Cancer. Individuals who can not attend the drive can visit www.DeleteBloodCancer.org to register online.

About Delete Blood Cancer…

Delete Blood Cancer DKMS was born from one individual’s incredible efforts to find a suitable bone marrow donor to save his spouse’s life. Our mission is to build a critical mass of suitable bone marrow and stem cell donors, because we believe that no life should be lost due to an inability to find a donor match. Today, the organization is part of the world’s largest bone marrow donor center. We have registered more than 4 million potential donors and facilitated more than 40,000 transplants around the world. But we’re not stopping there. We lead the fight against blood cancer by working with families, communities and organizations to recruit donors and provide more patients with second chances at life.
