Dublin running back Willie Batts accepts preferred walk-on spot at Fort Valley State University

Dublin running back, Willie Batts, has found his home for the next four years as he announced he is accepting a preferred walk-on spot at Fort Valley State University to continue his academic and football career.

Batts was one of two seniors on last year’s Dublin team to rush for over 1,000 yards on the season along with Xavier Bostic as Batts rushed for 1,306 yards, the second-leading rusher on the team.

Last season for Dublin, the Fighting Irish ran its offense through a four-headed monster in its rushing attack. Batts and Bostic were the two leaders in the rushing attack along with sophomore Trevion Bostic and senior quarterback Micah O’Neal as the four combined for 4,447 yards in 14 total games last season.

Batts was one of the main contributors on a Dublin team that totaled an incredible 655 points last season which turned out to be the fifth-most points scored from a Georgia high school football program in the state. Batts and the Fighting Irish trailed only four teams as they were one of the highest scoring teams in the state behind Lee County, Hughes, Carrollton and Milton.

Batts has been a contributor for the Fighting Irish for the last two seasons and was able to see the field in his junior season as well. During the 2023 season, Batts had the second-most carries on the team with 64 and ran for 577 yards and five touchdowns while totaling five touchdowns.

In his two years on the Dublin varsity football roster, Batts ran for over 100 yards in seven games and accumulated 22 touchdowns, as he proved he was one of the more reliable running backs in the state of Georgia in a very run-heavy offense at Dublin.

Batts is joining a Fort Valley State football program that went 6-4 a season ago, featuring a 4-1 record at home and a 6-2 conference record playing in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
