ELITE JUNIOR: Cade Blackburn

Cade Blackburn is playing on Colquitt County’s offensive line after playing for Moultrie through multiple recreation leagues. He has adjusted to the competitive nature that comes with 6A football, and he has surprised those around him with how well he handles himself against the best defensive lineman that Georgia has to offer. His 3.6 GPA and dominant play on the offensive line have brought Blackburn attention from a lot of big name universities, and his senior season should bring him even more attention.

An Oklahoma native, Blackburn spends most of his free time hunting and fishing. His father spoke to me about Cade’s transition from recreation league football in Moultrie to playing on Colquitt County’s team. “He’s a reserved young man. There’s still that part of him that wants to be hunting and fishing with his buddies,” Blackburn’s father, Brian, explains, “but the other part of him realizes he’s going up against 6A defensive lineman and just handling them.”

Blackburn is still uncertain where he wants to attend college, but this list of opportunity in front of him is plentiful. Right now, he is being contacted by South Carolina, and he has interest in Florida State, Auburn, Kennesaw State, Oklahoma, Vanderbilt, and Georgia. “I would like to stay somewhat close to home, friends and family,” Blackburn says about choosing a school, “I’m undecided on a major in college, but leaning toward coaching or physical therapy.”

The 6’3, 240 pound Blackburn transitioned from recreation league football to leading the offensive line of the fourth ranked team in Georgia naturally. His transition from high school to college should be a successful one as well with his impressive 3.6 GPA and a great support system of family and friends at home. Blackburn’s play helped the Packers reach the state semi-finals where they fell to Norcross, but his leadership should help lift Colquitt County to success next year before he goes on to help a team at the next level.
