The Atlanta Hawks shipped Willie Green off to the Los Angeles Clippers in a sign-and-trade Monday in which the Hawks received the rights to Sofoklis Schortsanitis. Schortsanitis will remain in the Greek League, but more importantly for the Hawks is the trade exception they receive for Green which will be between 1.65 and 2.75 million dollars.
Gaining that large of a trade exception is most likely part of a larger plan that could see Hawks’ GM Danny Ferry move one of the team’s numerous guards for a small forward. The Hawks only have one true small forward on the roster in Kyle Korver and need to add some depth on the wing. With so many guards on the roster, it seems likely that Ferry will make yet another move in what has been a very busy offseason for the Hawks.
