Former Collins Hill star Travis Hunter to have jersey retired by Colorado

Before being selected in the NFL Draft next week, former Collins Hill standout two-way star Travis Hunter will earn one more accolade at the University of Colorado as the football program announced they will be retiring Hunter’s No. 12 jersey on Saturday during the programs Black and Gold Spring Game.

Along with Hunter’s No. 12, quarterback Shadeur Sanders’ No. 2 jersey will also be retired in the ceremony at Folsom Field.

In his career at Colorado from 2023-2024, the two-way star logged a total of 2,625 snaps, playing both wide receiver and cornerback for the Buffaloes.

In his two seasons in Boulder, Hunter recorded 153 receptions for 1,989 yards and 21 touchdowns on offense while also registering 67 total tackles, seven interceptions, 16 pass breakups, three tackles for loss and a forced fumble, posting incredible numbers while playing multiple positions.

Hunter is coming off one of the most accomplished college football seasons in the history of the sport, winning a handful of awards during his final season playing for Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes.

During his final season at Colorado a year ago, Hunter brought home awards such as the 2024 Biletnikoff Award to the nations best wide receiver, the 2024 Chuck Bednarik Award to the nations best defensive player, 2024 Big 12 Player of the Year, 2024 AP College Football Player of the Year, 2024 Walter Camp Player of the Year Award as well as First Team All-Big 12 on both sides of the ball. To cap off his extraordinary career, Hunter was awarded the 2024 Heisman Trophy, becoming the first defensive player to win the award since Michigan’s Charles Woodson in 1997. Hunter and Woodson are the only two defensive players to earn the award.

Hunter won the Heisman Trophy his senior season after an incredible final season at Colorado where he accounted for 1,258 yards on 96 receptions including 15 touchdown receptions as well as 35 total tackles, 11 pass deflections and four interceptions, capping off an incredible college career.

Hunter’s football career began at Collins Hill where he was the No. 1 overall recruit coming out of high school where he held offers to every major college football program but ultimately decided to attend Jackson State and be coached by Deion Sanders. Hunter eventually followed Sanders to Colorado where he continued to show why he was one of the best players in the country.

The dynamic two-way star is at the top of NFL Draft boards as he is expected to be drafted in the top-five picks during next Thursday’s draft.
