Former St. Pius head coach Paul Standard accepts Gilmer job

Gilmer High School announced on Wednesday that veteran head coach Paul Standard from St. Pius was named the Bobcats new head coach. Standard, who led the Golden Lions to a 174-72 record during his 20 seasons at St. Pius, replaces Kevin Saunders. Under Saunders these past two seasons, Gilmer was able to snap what was the longest losing streak in the state and pick up seven wins. As for St. Pius, the Golden Lions earned the Region 5-AAAAA title this year and closed out a 9-2 record.

Standard’s son Paul III will be joining him on the Bobcats’ staff after performing the duties of offensive coordinator and running backs coach at St. Pius.
