Lamar has cemented himself as one of the best running backs in the country. According to 247Sports Composite, Lamar is a 4 star prospect, the No. 8 RB, the No. 11 player in Georgia, and the No. 104 player nationally. He is rated as a four-star prospect on every recruiting platform that includes ESPN, Rivals, On3, and 247Sports.
He is known for his change of direction on the football field and how quickly he can hit second gear and run away from defenders. Lamar didn’t play his first two seasons with the Packers but took full advantage of his opportunities as a junior. The standout running back rushed for 885 yards and 11 touchdowns this past season for Colquitt County. He had one of his best games against Lowndes when he rushed for 182 yards and two touchdowns on just 13 carries.
This offseason he was clocked running a 40-yard dash at a 4.38 speed. Lamar participated in the Under Armour UA Next Camp in Atlanta in February and was impressed while he was there. He was named a top 10 overall performer by On3. Here is more on his evaluation from the camp via On3 recruiting analyst Charles Power.
“These camps don’t always allow for extended looks at running backs and linebackers. With that said, Jae Lamar was a standout among the group. Lamar sports rocked-up build at around 5-foot-11, 200 pounds that looks well-equipped to sustain contact on Friday nights. He caught the ball well throughout drills and in 1-on-1’s and won several reps throughout the day. Lamar came away with the win in a best-on-best matchup against linebacker Anthony Davis, getting vertical on the speedy backer for a long gain. Georgia, Auburn, and Miami are among the programs in pursuit of the Moultrie (Ga.) Colquitt County back.
Georgia is currently in the lead to land Lamar, but Auburn, Clemson, and Ohio State have been making hard pushes for the standout running back. It will be an intriguing recruitment to watch to see who separates themselves in the race to land Lamar.
