Basketball region contests were scattered around the state on Friday night. Here’s a look at some of the results:

For the boys, Alpharetta defeated Dunwoody 71-54 in a Class AAAAAA Region 7 game after the Wildcats took a 11-9 lead after the first quarter. Alpharetta mounted a 20-12 run in the second quarter to take the 29-23 lead at the break. Dunwoody continued applying pressure with a 22-17 effort in the third quarter before Alpharetta took over in the final frame with a 25-9 run. In another AAAAAA Region 7 contest, Chattahoochee defeated Centennial 86-55 after taking a 20-13 lead following the first quarter. The Cougars pressed the lead with a 30-10 run in the second quarter to go ahead 50-23 at the break, which put the game out of reach. In Class AA, Swainsboro’s 27-5 lead after the first quarter proved too much for Toombs County as the Tigers went on to a 76-46 victory in the Region 2 game. Pickens defeated Ridgeland 67-60 in a Class AAAA Region 6 game. Seth Bishop led with 23 points, 11 rebounds and four steals and assists. Hunter Herman added 12 points, four rebounds and three steals. Zach Goss scored 10 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals. Brady Moore and Tucker Lowe each scored 10 points. In a Class AAA Region 5 game, Cedar Grove defeated Towers 59-36 behind an 11-point effort from Kanaris Cummings and 10-point performance from Devon Barnes. Jeff Daniels and Montre Monfort each scored eight points. In Class A-Public’s Region 3, Treutlen defeated Emanuel County Institute 90-39 after leading 28-12 in the first quarter and 53-16 at the break.

On the girls’ side, Class AAAAAA Alpharetta led 22-1 after the first quarter in its 66-18 victory over Dunwoody. The Raiders mounted a 19-8 run in the second quarter and a 17-7 run in the third quarter to maintain control. Class AAAAA Harris County defeated Thomas County Central 62-24 in a Region 1 game after taking a 15-6 lead in the first quarter. Harris County pieced together a 15-2 run in the second quarter and a 22-10 run in the third quarter to put the game out of reach. In Class AAAA, Pickens defeated Ridgeland 81-33. Mykenzie Weaver led with 29 points, eight rebounds and 10 steals. Torie Williams added 12 points, five assists and three steals. Chloe Walker scored nine points with four steals and three assists. Cassidy Richards netted eight points with five rebounds and three steals and three assists. Class AAA Johnson-Savannah defeated Savannah 61-32 in a Region 3 contest after taking a 13-10 at the end of the first quarter. Johnson held Savannah to six points in the second quarter while adding 14 points to take a 27-16 lead into the locker room. Johnson blew the game open with a 24-5 run in the third quarter. In Class AA, Lamar County defeated Heard County 47-41 in a Region 5 contest. After ending the first quarter tied at 14 and entering the half locked at 22, Lamar County took control with a 14-7 run in the third quarter. It weathered a Heard County run (12-11) in the final frame to retain control. Class A Clinch County jumped to a 19-7 lead after the first quarter on the way to a 64-23 victory over Irwin County in a Region 2 game. Clinch outscored Irwin 20-6 in the second quarter to talk a 39-13 lead at the break. After a 19-6 run in the third quarter, Clinch added six more points in the final frame which put the game away.
