GHSA recommends all member schools suspend spring sports

The GHSA provided an update on its reaction to the coronavirus pandemic on Sunday. Here is what the organization said.

“Hope everyone in your company and family are healthy and staying safe in the midst of global concern of the coronavirus pandemic. The GHSA announced last week to postpone the Literary State Championships and recommended that all member schools suspend spring sports activities until further notice.

“We will definitely suspend for the next two weeks, as the Governor recommended,” said Robin Hines, Executive Director. “By close of business on Friday, March 27th, we will issue an update. We hate to have to make this call, but we must do what is in the best interest of our student-athletes and fans.”

I will continue to interact with the GHSA statewide community through @OfficialGHSA social media channels and GHSA.net. Please send or call to discuss any promotional product / service content for our ADs, coaches, athletes and fans. I will be reaching out to several of you to schedule calls on ways to strengthen our partnership.

Any spring activations will be adjusted appropriately once we learn more about the remainder of the season. Let’s all focus on getting this unprecedented situation under control. Be safe and as always, thank you for supporting the beneficial impact of sports and activities on Georgia’s high school students.”
