Grayson and Collins Hill among Georgia high schools ranked in MaxPreps Preseason Top 25

Two Georgia high schools were included in the 2021 Preseason MaxPreps Top 25 National rankings announced Tuesday afternoon. Texas led all states with six selections while Florida and California checked in with four. A total of 13 states are included in the top 25.

The Grayson Rams, who closed out this past season ranked No. 2 in the nation, enter 2021 ranked No. 8 while the Collins Hill Eagles ranks 11th overall in the country. The Rams beat the Eagles 38-14 in the Class 7A state championship.

Head coach Adam Carter enters his third season with the Rams and is looking for the school’s fourth straight region championship since coming over from Creekview in 2018. The powerhouse compiled a 25-2 record in Carter’s first two seasons and finished 2020 with a perfect 14-0 record picking up the school’s third all-time state championship.

The No. 4 overall player in Georgia for 2023, 4-star Michael Daughtery heads the Rams secondary alongside 3-star safety and West Virginia commit Mumu Bin-Wahed, who is the No. 87 overall player in Georgia for 2022. Class of 2024 athlete Joseph Stone Jr. comes back for a sophomore year with nine offers, while Class of 2025 corner Jaylen Bell enters with six offers including Georgia and Georgia Tech. Senior linebacker Derrell Farrar joins Bin-Wahed on the defense with offers from Liberty, Akron, Marshall, etc. 2022 Rivals 3-star and Georgia Tech commit guard Griffin Scroggs joins 2024 Waltclaire Flynn Jr. on the line who earned MaxPreps First Team All-American and Under Armour All-American honors last season.

The Eagles are led by Lenny Gregory, who enters his fifth season with a 27-21 overall record and is coming off the program’s first region championship since 2013 and first-ever finals appearance. The Eagles are led by the No. 1 overall player in Georgia and five-star cornerback and wide receiver Travis Hunter who is committed to play at Florida State next year.

Starting quarterback and Missouri commit Sam Horn, the No. 6 overall player in Georgia for 2022 is back under center. Horn will have Hunter as a primary target in addition to three-star 2023 tight end Ethan Davis, who is ranked as the No. 36 player in Georgia. Gregory also brought in 2023 three-star defensive end transfer Denzel Moore from Norcross for the upcoming season.

Collins Hill is set to open the 2021 season at Mercedes-Benz Stadium against Brookwood as a part of the 11-game slate for the 30th annual Corky Kell Classic beginning Aug. 18 at West Forsyth. Grayson opens their title defense against Creekside at home on Aug. 20.
