Connor Staphylaris picked up his Oglethorpe University offer on April 14th and committed just two weeks later. The Stormy Petrels have bolstered their backcourt after adding Staphylaris in the 2025 class.
I am so extremely blessed and excited to announce that I will continue my academic and basketball career at Oglethorpe University. I would like to thank my family, friends, and coaches for always pushing me to get where I am today! All Glory to God!

Staphylaris is a two-time state champion with the Kell Longhorns. He was behind a talented slew of players that included CJ Brown (USF), Chris McLavish (Grayson), Jaylen Colon (Alabama A&M) when he first came into high school. Staphylaris never let that stop him and continued to improve his craft, becoming one of the better scorers in his classification. After another great season with the Longhorns, he was named to the GBCA/GACA All-State Team. He was also named Region 6-4A Player of the Year.
Staphylaris is known for his elite shooting prowess on the basketball court, especially with his ability to hit the three-ball at an efficient rate. One of his best games this past season came against Cartersville in the first round of the playoffs. Staphylaris finished with 30 points and five rebounds in the victory.
I got the chance to see him in the Play For Change Classic last season and was impressed with his confidence in the game and ability to knock down shots. He even had a buzzer-beater at the end of the third quarter to give the Longhorns momentum. He didn’t have to have the ball in his hands constantly to be effective. He was able to use screens and catch-and-shoot opportunities to punish the defense. He is also underrated with his ability to put the ball on the floor.
The Stormy Petrels now add elite shooting to their backcourt for next season. This past season, Oglethorpe finished 16-10 and was 7-5 in conference play. The Petrels finished their season winning four of their final five games.
