Keyon Standifer Athens Academy’s Hidden Gem

The state of Georgia is full of some of the most talented football players in the country, but one of the most underrated is Athens Academy’s Keyon Standifer. Standifer, a Class of 2027 wide receiver, has been dominant in his first two seasons of high school football. He already has over 1,800 career receiving yards and 24 touchdowns. Last year was by far his best season yet, as he made 46 catches for 1,222 yards and 19 touchdowns.

As a player, Standifer is one of the most fluid athletes I’ve ever seen. He effortlessly gets open on nearly every play and scores at will. As a recruit, he received his first FBS offer from Georgia State in December. The one thing slowing his recruitment is his size. Standing at 5-foot-10 and weighing 160 pounds, he isn’t an X wide receiver, but he doesn’t need to be. He fits perfectly into the traditional slot role and should be viewed as one of the top prospects in the state.

He dominated the Brent Key/Corky Kell + Dave Hunter 7-on-7.

Standifer was the focal point of the Spartans’ offense, helping them become the only team to defeat eventual champions Kell. In that game, he caught multiple touchdowns and helped lead the team to a 28-24 victory. He was consistently open and even burned defenders like 3-star Jalen Williams, who Standifer was the only receiver to create space against all day.

The Spartans have high expectations this season and should compete for a Private school state title. Standifer’s connection with senior quarterback Chap Chapman is an incredibly valuable asset and was on full display Thursday. With the graduation of Bryan McClendon and KJ Whitehead, Athens Academy will also be looking to identify their new No. 2 and No. 3 receivers. Even so, they’re poised to win a second straight region title and could be one of the top teams in Class A-3A Private.
