Landmark Christian is coming off one of the best seasons in recent memory and is looking to continue building the program back into a respectable and rising power in Class A-3A Private during the 2025 season.
The 2024 season was the best in the five-season tenure of head coach Tommy Lewis. Lewis is an accomplished head coach. In his previous stop at Hilton Head Christian, he built one of the top programs in the Palmetto State. Coach Lewis took over the program after its first season of football and, following a 1-9 record in year one, amassed a record of 97-18. He won four state titles, six region titles, and reached the finals in seven of his 10 seasons at the helm. After the 2012 season, he stepped down and did not become a head coach again until the 2021 season at Landmark Christian.
The Landmark Christian program is not one devoid of history. Under head coaches Kenny Dallas and Wayne Brantley, the Eagles amassed a 130-67 record, won six region titles, made one finals appearance, and reached the quarterfinals or better four times. However, the four seasons between 2016 and 2021 were a struggle. In Brantley’s final season, the team went 0-10. Over the next three seasons under Joe Scott and Mike Sherrard, the program went 5-26 and missed the playoffs for three straight years, the first such drought since the turn of the century.
Coach Lewis has turned the program around, making the playoffs in three of his four seasons and recording two .500 or better regular seasons in the past three years. The upcoming season already shows promise, with Landmark performing very well in Tuesday’s edition of the Brent Key/Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic 7-on-7. In the event, the team finished pool play as the No. 3 seed and made the quarterfinals before losing to defending 4A state champions North Oconee in a close 19-17 game.
This coming season is one full of hope, as the team resides in Region 5-A Division I, Sub-Region B, a very winnable group with no dominant teams or traditional powers.
