Mountain View’s Flatt set to wrestle at Davidson next fall

Mountain View’s Adam Flatt will continue his wrestling career at Davidson College next fall. Flatt is a three-time state qualifier, two-time state placer and a state finalist in Georgia’s highest classification. Davidson College, which sits about 20 miles north of Charlotte, N.C. and competes in the Southern Conference as one of the closest Division I wrestling outside of Georgia.

“It’s a great opportunity for me academically and athletically” said Flatt.

Flatt is one of the top wrestlers in Georgia and is currently 18-0 to start off his senior season and continue building to his career record of 167-23. Flatt finished 53-4 at 120 and 126 pounds last season with three of those losses coming in the finals at Areas, Sectionals and State against Top 5 nationally ranked Sean Russell from Collins Hill, who is now wrestling for NCAA Division I Edinboro University.

Flatt’s other achievements on the mat include being named a 2013 ASICS/Vaughn USA Wrestling Cadet Greco National Championship All-American, placing 2nd at the Fargo Tournament. Intermat Wrestling. Amateur Wrestling News and USA Wrestling have each ranked him in the Top 20 for his weight class.

Flatt also excels in the classroom where he is an NHSCA Academic All-American, AP Scholar and National Merit Commended Student.

“I always thought I would get an opportunity to wrestle in college,” Flatt said. “But I was not sure I would get an opportunity to wrestle Division I at a top ranked academic college.”

His father, Anthony Flatt wrestled at Boys Town High School in Nebraska and has volunteered with his wife Cheryl with Team Georgia USA Wrestling for over a decade.

“I know at Davidson College Adam will be challenged academically and athletically as a high achieving student athlete,” said Anthony.

Flatt will likely major in Physics or Chemistry and plans to pursue a Masters in Engineering.

“The campus, faculty and students are awesome,” Flatt said. “It’s a small school which I like and the town of Davidson seems like such a great place.”
