Saturday saw seven athletes with Georgia ties earn invitations to “The Opening” at the Atlanta Nike Football Training Camp. Athletes from across the southeast descended upon Buford High School for the NFTC trying to secure bids to the July recruiting showcase in Beaverton, Ore. The athletes receiving invitations included Alvin Kamara (Norcross), Ryan Jenkins (Milton), Shamire Devine (Tri-Cities), Reuben Foster (formerly of Troup), Shaq Wiggins (Sandy Creek), Tray Matthews (Newnan) and Brendan Langley (Kell). Alpharetta quarterback Joshua Dobbs was named the MVP of the Saturday showcase.
The NFTC followed the Atlanta Elite 11 regional camp where nearly 100 quarterbacks competed at Buford for a ticket to the Elite 11 finals. Marietta quarterback Anthony Jennings was named MVP of the event and earned the spot in the finals, to be held in late July in Southern California. Camden County’s Brice Ramsey performed well but did not get an invitation, nor did Lassiter’s Eddie Printz. UGA quarterback Aaron Murray, a former Elite 11 finalist, made the trip from Athens to speak to the campers
