Wednesday was a big day for Norcross two-sport star Lorenzo Carter. Not only did he help the Blue Devils to a victory in Round 1 of the GHSA basketball playoffs, but he also picked up a pair of offers from two prestigious football programs. According to 247sports.com, the Texas Longhorns and USC Trojans each offered yesterday, just eight days after Stanford offered. Carter also holds offers from UGA, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, NC State, Florida State and Michigan, among others. Carter recorded 18 sacks last season as a junior as the Blue Devils won the Class AAAAAA football title. … The University of Georgia was able to add another name to its 2013 recruiting class earlier this week when former Banneker standout Toby Johnson announced he would sign with Georgia. Johnson currently plays at Hutchinson junior college but he suffered a knee injury that scared several teams off. Once he arrives at Georgia, he will have two years of eligibility left. … The recruiting process is never over and once one class has put pen to paper, the next class is ready to assume the spotlight. The University of Georgia held its Junior Day last weekend and Peachtree Ridge’s Nick Glass, North Gwinnett’s Dante Sawyer, Albany’s Juwon Young, Tucker’s Detric Dukes and Cedar Grove’s Bryson Allen-Williams were just a few of the high profile juniors in attendance in Athens. The Bulldogs currently have three players in the 2014 class, all from Georgia. George Walton’s Stanley Williams committed back in 2011 while Glass and Wayne County’s Krenwick Sanders each committed in 2012. Georgia Tech will hold a junior day on March 9.
