One of the best all-around players in Georgia high school basketball from a year ago, Pace Academy forward Chandler Bing, has announced his commitment to Vanderbilt. The senior announced his commitment on social media on Tuesday night as Bing became the third incoming freshman to sign with the Commodores this offseason.
Bing was previously committed to Texas State before decommitting from the school last December.
The senior held offers from places such as Texas State, Georgia State, Troy and Vanderbilt before ultimately committing to the Commodores.
At 6-foot-6, Bing’s tremendous size is complimented very well by his ability to score from all three levels on the court.
The Vanderbilt-commit saw his shooting numbers rise in every year he was on the varsity roster. In his senior season playing for the Knights, Bing saw his shooting numbers rise to 59% from the field and a career-high 37% from beyond the three-point arc. In comparison, Bing began his varsity high school career as a sophomore and shot 25% from deep, showing true improvement in a major facet of the game.
“Chandler has been a part of our program since the 6th grade and has improved every year,” said Pace Academy head coach Sharman White. “His commitment to hard work year in year out has put him in this position. He has evolved into a skilled athletic and versatile wing who can play at all three levels. His tenacity and grit on defense makes him a dynamic two-way player. He has been a true pleasure to coach and mentor because of his elite character and desire to learn. His story is still being written as I believe his best basketball days are ahead of him. I know it’s commonly said, but Vanderbilt may have picked up one heck of a steal in this different world of recruitment.”
Last season for Pace Academy in 31 games played, Bing led the team in scoring, averaging over 19 points, over six rebounds, three assists and two steals a game.
Bing was half of Pace Academy’s dynamic duo alongside senior guard and Georgia Tech-commit Eric Chatfield Jr. who was second on the team in scoring, averaging over 18 points per game.
Last season Bing was a part of a Pace Academy team that fell short of its state championship goal as the Knights were defeated by back-to-back state champions, North Oconee.
In 2023, Bing was a member of the Pace Academy state championship team that won White’s fifth state championship with the Knights.
