Preseason girls soccer rankings

Defending champion West Forsyth heads into the season at the top of the Class 6A rankings. The Lady Wolverines have won three championships in the past four years. A pair of Cobb County powers, Harrison and Walton, are ranked second and third, respectively, while last year’s runner-up, Buford, and North Gwinnett round out the top five.

In 5A, Roswell sits atop the preseason rankings after falling just short to Marist in last year’s championship. Pope comes in ranked second, with the Greyhounds boasting a roster loaded with talent, including three Division I commits headlining their roster. Pope’s region rival, Lassiter, is ranked third. Only three years removed from a championship, Lassiter fell just short of the title game last year, losing to Roswell 0-0 in penalty kicks. McIntosh, the first team in the top five that was in 5A last year, is ranked fourth after making the semifinals. Northgate rounds out the top five as the Vikings look for their second title and first since 2013.

Class 4A is led by a pair of powerhouses in defending 6A champion Marist and Westminster, who has won eight championships in the past nine seasons. North Oconee, Cambridge, and St. Pius round out the top five. In 3A, two-time defending champion Oconee County debuts at the top of the rankings, with region rivals Cherokee Bluff and Jefferson at No. 2 and No. 3. Dawson County and Whitewater complete the top five. Class 2A appears wide open, with Columbus debuting at No. 1, followed by Pierce County, Pike County, Callaway, and Coahulla Creek. In Class A-DI, defending runner-up Social Circle leads the rankings, with Model, Fitzgerald, ACE Charter, and Bremen rounding out the top five. Lake Oconee Academy debuts at No. 1 in Class A-DII after making a run to the finals last year before losing to eventual champion Aquinas. The top five is rounded out by Towns County, Atlanta Classical Academy, Metter, and Lincoln County.

The A-3A Private classification may be one of the most dominant in state history, featuring five returning state champions. Greater Atlanta Christian leads the way after winning the 5A title last season. Lovett starts ranked second following its 4A state title. Last year’s 2A champion, Fellowship Christian, begins the season ranked third. Aquinas starts at No. 4 after winning the Class A-DII championship last year, while defending Class A-DI champion Paideia rounds out the top five.
