It’s that time of the year for Brent Key/Corky Kell + Dave Hunter 7-on-7 Classic at Georgia Tech. This year will feature six days spanning over the next two weeks and features some of the best talent Georgia has to offer. Let’s take a look at Day 1 on Tuesday, June 10 and check out the prospects to watch on the first day of action.
East Paulding QB Bode Spence- Spence will have a lot of eyes on him this season for the Raiders. Many view him as the next in line to be an elite quarterback in Georgia. As a freshman, he threw for 578 yards and seven touchdowns. Spence played in the Georgia Elite Classic in December and made his mark there, showcasing what he can do as a passer. In a victory, he finished with 115 passing yards and a touchdown. Spence is only scratching the surface of his true potential.
South Gwinnett QB CJ Peoples- Peoples has gained attention since the spring practice cycle, seeing more colleges interested in his services. Colleges that have offered him are Austin Peay, Miami (OH), Georgia Southern, Kennesaw State, FIU, Samford and more. He is a dual-threat quarterback who is equally effective with his arm as he is with his legs, punishing defenses with both. The South Gwinnett signal-caller has a knack for delivering the ball in tight windows, and his ability to improvise. Many will see South Gwinnett as a sleeper this year, but Peoples puts them in a firm position to make some noise and shock some people in 2025.
Prince Avenue QB Ben Musser- Musser split duties last year with Jake Bobo last season at the quarterback position. This is Musser’s team now as he enters into his junior campaign with a team featuring a bevvy of playmakers, including Andrew Beard, CJ Dockery, Hunter Hill, and Izak Koep. Last season, he threw for 1,472 passing yards and 15 touchdowns for the Wolverines. Musser is a talented signal-caller known for his deep ball and ability to throw off the run. He will be one to watch to see how much he has improved going into his junior season.
Prince Avenue RB Andrew Beard- The four-star prospect has been heavily touted going back to his youth days and has continued to impress with Prince Avenue Christian. Last season, Beard barely missed a 2,000-yard season on the ground. He finished with 1,937 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns. He was also the leading receiver for the Wolverines in yards, finishing with 525 yards and five touchdowns on 32 catches. Beard is one of the best running backs in the country and has more than 20+ offers. A multi-talented athlete, he also plays defensive back and safety for the Wolverines. Beard thrives in a setting like 7-on-7 because he is such a dynamic route runner as a running back and can beat safeties, linebackers, and cornerbacks. Don’t be surprised if you see Prince Avenue make a run in the tournament.
Northgate LB Brysen Davies- Davies is a very instinctual and physical linebacker who reacts well to what he sees on the field. He has continued to improve in pass coverage and refine his game this offseason. He is another name that is continuing to rise in the ranks, with more offers coming in, like Army and Austin Peay. Last season, he finished with 111 tackles, seven tackles for loss, and five sacks, which earned him an all-region selection. He finished with 10+ in five consecutive games last season for the Vikings.
Newton RB Kevin Hartsfield- He was a standout at Under Armour Camp in Atlanta in February and has a big upside for the Rams. As a true freshman, Hartsfield ran for 724 yards and eight touchdowns. He had one of his best games against Archer last season. In the game, he ran the ball just six times but gashed the defense for 190 yards and two touchdowns. Hartsfield is the perfect blend of speed, power, and finesse at the running back position. Newton has been known for producing quality running backs over the years and has another one at least for the next three years.
Carver-Atlanta ATH Terrius Favors- The Boise State-commit has continued to see his stock rise and one of the main things coaches like is his versatility. Favors can play both sides of the ball exceptionally well. On offense, he is a No. 1 option that is capable of taking it for a touchdown whenever he touches the ball. He is also a highly skilled returner, evidenced by his six special-teams touchdowns. Although he is committed to Boise State, more offers have continued to pour in for the playmaker, with the likes of Georgia being interested in him. Favors was an all-classification player, first-team all-state as an ATH and wide receiver, region ATH of the year, first-team all-metro defensive back, and many more. Despite the three-star ranking, Favors is vastly underrated and has huge upside at the next level to be a burgeoning star.
Paulding County WR Riley Jefferies- Jefferies was a pleasant surprise when I made a stop at Paulding County in the spring. He continued to route guys up and create separation from defensive backs with his pristine route-running ability. He is not the biggest guy, but he is tough to bring down with his shiftiness and ability to get up the field quickly. A lot of people don’t know about Jefferies, but he very well could be a pleasant surprise at Georgia Tech on Day 1.
South Gwinnett DB/ATH Evin McDowell- McDowell is a superior athlete for the Comets and will likely be playing both sides. On defense, he is primarily a cornerback but is seeing some time at safety and corner, especially in 7-on-7 settings. His ball skills and ability to anticipate when the ball is coming make him a standout player. Offensively, he has a great catch radius and can create great separation at the top of his routes. He is also tough to handle in open space. McDowell is easily one of the most underrated athletes in the state and has offers from Mercer, Utah State, Coastal Carolina, UNC-Charlotte, and many more.
