Rockmart’s Jaiden Thompson is already one of the highest, if not the highest-rated, players to come out of the 2A powerhouse. Thompson is a 6-foot-4, 290-pound interior offensive line prospect.
As a player, he is a top-50 prospect in the state in the class of 2027 and the No. 4 IOL in Georgia. He is a violent blocker who has played both offensive tackle and guard for the Yellow Jackets. He uses leverage extremely well and effortlessly moves to the second level in the run game. As an offensive tackle, he still needs development as a pass blocker, but if he moves inside as expected at the next level, it will be much less of an issue. He has the strength and technique to defend against interior defensive linemen.
On the recruiting trail, he has a handful of offers, but three stand out: one from Nebraska, another from Auburn, and the most notable from Georgia, who seems to be in the driver’s seat of his recruitment at this early stage. He fits the mold of offensive linemen the Bulldogs have pursued since Stacy Searels took over in 2022. Georgia has focused on high-upside linemen who can play multiple positions, rather than players suited to just one. Thompson fits that description perfectly.
The coming season will be another in which Thompson and the Yellow Jackets enter with high expectations. Under coach Biff Parson, the team has won eight straight region titles, made two finals appearances, and is coming off a trip to the semifinals last season. Despite all that success, the team is still chasing its first state title in three-quarters of a century, the drought dating back to 1950. Once again, they should be expected to challenge for a championship, but they’ll face a tough road, with defending champion Carver-Columbus looking poised to repeat.
