Sky Zone Jump in to Give: Brad Stewart

Brad Stewart is a versatile athlete for Benedictine. He plays wide receiver and cornerback for the Savannah school and is also a shooting guard for the basketball team. His stats are impressive as he has totaled over 1800 yards and 25 touchdowns in the past two seasons, but his work off the field is what makes him a truly impressive person. His personal experiences have made him want to give back, and he has taken advantage of opportunities to help those around him.

Volunteering has been a part of Stewart’s life since he was in elementary school. He and his younger siblings were given the opportunity to get to know a family with health challenges while they attended St. James Elementary. They work with a family making cards and gifts for people in the Hospice system. The mother of the family he works with is a cancer survivor, and Stewart felt a personal connection because his grandmother is also a breast cancer survivor.

“This helped make it more personal than just wearing the pink attire for football,” Stewart explained.

His relationship with the mother drove him to volunteering as much as he can. “The mother of this family has been a true survivor and has shown great strength and faith,” Stewart said. “She approached our family and we accepted with honor.”

He and his family help those in need in whatever way they can. It’s helped Stewart’s family realize how lucky they are.

“We have found that not only does it help others, but it brings us closer as a family. We do these projects together as a family. I get to spend the much needed time with my family and help others at the same time,” Stewart said.

In his words, working with the hospice has been a blessing for him and his family. He doesn’t see this work as work, but rather a chance to help people in need when he has the opportunity.

As he put it, “I will always be thankful to this family for showing me that putting others needs before your own is the greatest lesson.”
